I really struggled with this without anyone to call on. I tried several times to sign up for del.icio.us but kept being sent back to the fuzzy writing screen! This just reinforced my avoidance of these sites.
I can see that some people would love this type of connection, but to me it is very isolating and impersonal.
I'll try another time to get into this and read some reviews.

RSS FEEDS
I found this the most interesting of the drives I've been on so far. Knowing I can have information come to me instead of searching for it afresh every time I want to check something out is a bonus!
I selected the Powerhouse Museum photo of the day blog as I don't think my husband knows about this one, and he is a photo follower, and the ABC site, as I listen to or watch ABC news and often hear about ABC blogs, but have never followed up on them.
I didn't get to look at any library sites, but as I have now added OPAL training I know where to go.
It was also useful to practice subscribing to different feeds, as I am more likely to remember how to do it all again.

social networking
I can see how social networking sites such as facebook or my space would be useful to share information about a particular area of interest, or to seek ideas from others who already have expertise in a certain area.
To me, social still means being able to see a person or hear their voice, so I have to change my way of thinking!
For libraries, I think there is great potential for planning, reviewing and promoting - with staff, clients and community groups.

wikis
Try as I might , unless I am needing to find out specific information which I haven't been able to access elsewhere, I would not read or use a wiki.
I would much rather do something than sit in front of a screen and get a headache. I cant see what the attraction is!
Also, unless I have the time and the inclination to regularly use this technology, I won't remember how to find it.
I'm afraid my feeling at present is "Give me the good old days".

I'm on my way!
No longer am I going to be one of the older generation who shake my head and wish for the days before computers!
I AM going to keep up with my children (and my husband), by learning about all things BLOGGING.
Step by step I will conquer this mountain - and will let you all know what sights I see.
